I love this book! Not only does it contain pretty much all of the solo soprano Barber rep you could want, it has translations, information about the background of pieces and song cycles, and even some copies of original Barber scores. Really cool if you’re a fan or art song enthusiast, even better if you’re a singer.
Excellent and comprehensive anthology of Samuel Barber songs.
I bought this wonderful music book because I remembered some songs it from my college education over 30 years ago. In particular I was searching for the Samuel Barber song, "Sure on this Shining Night," a song of healing I want to sing in church. The song among other good ones is a gem in this book of songs.
If you like Barber than this is a perfect buy. What's not to love about Barber art songs? It's nice to have so many of his pieces in one edition.
Delivered, as promised. A beautiful collection by a great 29th c. composer.
Very good book!
I like this anthology more than the one I bought in college in 94. It's more extensive, complete, and gives more background than any other Barner Anthology.
There is quite literally an entire essay in this book. Over 40 pages of notes before we get to the music.
