This a great work by Dr. Geisler. Very thorough and balanced presentation from a conservative, evangelical, high view (inerrancy of the Bible) of Scripture. Logically presented discussions of theology with major views and dissenters included. Only issue for me, at seventy-one is the size of the type is very small for me but understandably necessary to keep this four volumes-in-one barely at a size one can carry or hold. If it had been available on Kindle I would have bought it in that form as well for easier reading. I am reading through this from cover to cover. I sat under this author's teaching at seminary. He is brilliant and witty. This is a must for the serious student of theology. I highly recommend it.
No systematic theology text is perfect, but this one is definitely a good one. Geisler covers many aspects of biblical theology in a concise and readable one volume set. One thing that is front and center are Scripture references. Any good set should have its ideas backed by Scripture. Very well done. The layout is user friendly and clean. Explanations are thorough and comprehensible and leave the reader with a deeper understanding of biblical theology. The volume is a bit thick and heavy but this should not deter anyone from buying it. Highly recommended.
Extremely thorough. One of the best treatments of the doctrine of hell that I've seen in a long time. Actually, the entire section on eschatology was pretty good.Strong points: very thorough. Geisler includes sufficient information to make everything easy to understand, and includes (mostly) sound arguments against most of the alternative views (Geisler writes from an orthodox fundamentalist viewpoint). The book is well organized, ad the language is accessible to lay people without being to simple for the more serious student. Citations were very good.Weak points: many of Geisler's arguments from a philosophical standpoint can be seen as weak. While they hold water, they aren't well-supported and there were several instances where I could see a particular theological stance being refuted by a clever debater. The saving grace is that he always offers multiple arguments for each example.Overall: worthwhile for an apologetic, very good for a student or scholar as an addition to their theological library.
I have this Systematic Theology book and Wayne Grudem's Systematic Theology book. I enjoy both of them and they each cover topics the other does not. Overall though I have found Geisler's to be an easier read for those who do not have a Theological background. He explains some of the "Christianese" words better than Grudem.
Purchased this as a school textbook, but I've ended up using it as a writing and study resource as well. Great book with so much useful information.
I have many of the popular systematic theologies out there. I dont always use them all. This is one of my favorites and i will usually use it if i only have time to look up material in one or two ( i like Grudems the best). Its easy to read and well presented.
Anyone who wants a greater understanding of the Scripture must have this in their collection.
I got this for my father and he says it is terrific!
